 2022 Preview 


       Pleasant Grove completed the 2021 season with a 12-2 record. Last year Pleasant Grove captured the region five title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Spartans since the 2010 season. The Spartans won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 5A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Pike Road at the Alabama Super Seven 51-14 in Birmingham.

       The 597 points scored by the Spartans last year were a team record in a single season.

       The high-scoring Pleasant Grove offense ranked 11th in the AHSAA. They averaged 42.6 points a game.

       Over the past two seasons the Spartans have gone 23-5 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Pleasant Grove has gone a combined 102-47. Their 68.5% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Pleasant Grove has managed to compile a record of 197-102. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 5A and 62nd in the AHSAA.




       The Spartans are led by head coach Darrell LeBeaux who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 45-10 over the past four seasons at Pleasant Grove. Under his direction the Spartans have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach LeBeaux.

       Coach LeBeaux's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 45-10 (81.8%).

       Winning 37 games the last three seasons has been great for the Spartans but they would like nothing better than to win it all this season after finishing number two all three years. Pleasant Grove returns 16 seniors so the possibilities are endless for this year.

       The Pleasant Grove Spartans will play in Class 5A region five during the 2022 season.

       The Spartans enter the 2022 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. Pleasant Grove has won 7 consecutive region games. They have won 12 straight games on their home turf at Spartan Stadium.

       The Spartans enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region five and could very well be representing the North in the Class 5A title game. The Spartans have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2011 and this year should be no exception.

       The Spartans open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Paul Bryant on Friday, August 19 at Spartan Stadium. Last year the Paul Bryant Stampede finished with an overall record of 3-6 and in fifth place in Class 6A region four.

       Pleasant Grove and Paul Bryant have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Spartans have a 5-0-0 record against the Stampede. They last met in 2013 with Pleasant Grove winning by a score of 48-7.

       Pleasant Grove returns 5A All-State Senior linebacker Braylon Jordan. He was named to the second team last season.
